Mr. Johnny "John R." Rhodes

Lebanon, Tennessee 63 Passed away at University Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie D. and Gussie M. Rhodes; brothers: J. B. Rhodes, Willie Ed Rhodes, Walter F. Rhodes and Nathaniel Rhodes; sisters: Alice M. Rhodes and Gwendolyn Rhodes and daughter, Rachel D. Cason. Johnny Lee Rhodes, affectionately known as “John R.”, was the well known radio personality and host of the popular WANT 98.9 FM radio...The Gospel Show. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and has been a lifelong member of the Winters Chapel A.M.E. Church in Lebanon. He was the disc jockey for Sunday mornings,The Gospel Show, WANT 98.9. Famous sayings: “Ole John R., way down south in the middle of it.” “Underneath the twin towers” “Fit to be tied” “Excuse me if I damage your sensibility.” Survivors include, a very devoted wife of 4 years (after pursuing her for 26 years), Henrietta Hill Rhodes; two sons: Darrell (April) Kendall of Carthage, TN and Carlos Kendall of Nashville, TN; one step-daughter, Johnesha Kirkendoll; four sisters: Nan Rhodes Steverson, Geraldine Rhodes Jenkins, Audrey D. Rhodes and Era L. Rhodes; one brother, Ronald (Laverne) Rhodes of Deerfield Beech, Florida; one step-sister, Dorothy Logue Seay; three grandchildren: DeAndrea Kendall, Antonio Kendall and Zaria Kendall all of Lebanon, TN; two great grandchildren; aunt, Lillie Mai Moxley of Lebanon, TN; sisters-in-law, Vivian Rhodes of Milton, Florida, Ophelia (Charles) Seay of Lebanon, TN and Jimmie D. Hill of Nashville, TN; brothers-in-law, Charlie B. (Clara) Hill of Nashville, TN, Jimmy L. Hill of Gallatin, TN, Johnny (Evelyn) Hill of Gallatin, TN and Raymond Hill of Murfreesboro, TN; adopted mother, Beatrice Logue; three nephews: Larry Doby Rhodes, Eric Rhodes and Tyler Rhodes; two great nephews, two nieces: Scottie Rhodes and Jordan Rhodes; three great nieces: Aretha, Fredericka and Rhonda Blair; three first cousins: James H. Gilliam, Christine (Robert) Wright and Clara Lyles; special: cousin/ nephew, Quenterius Turner; two special friends, longtime next door neighbor, Sue Seay Henderson and Gospel Show Co-host, “Miss C.” (Carolyn Willoughby) and so many others too numerous to name.
